I could push a screwdriver through the wood joist pictured in this post. It was attacked by Powder Post Beetles. The microorganisms, other wood destroying insects and mold are all put on this earth to recycle dead wood fiber. That includes paper, wood, cardboard boxes, furniture and many other materials. Keep the humidity down or mother nature's plan will be to put these "recycling" organisms to work.
